Street Fighter X Tekken — Get Ready To Rumble!
Crossover fighting games are really fun to play. Marvel vs Capcom is the prime example of such collaboration. If you are already tired of Marvel vs Capcom then the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken might once again fire up your excitement for crossovers. I’m very excited too, as I am a big fan of both Street Fighter and Tekken. I can’t wait to use Chun li to beat the crap out of Jack. Yeah, I can feel that you are excited too, and I’m assuming that you already have a character match-up in mind.
First of all, the game is created by Capcom, so the core gameplay of the game will be similar to Street Fighter. Expect that the game will feature familiar Street Fighter elements such as Super Combos and EX Attacks. Each player will choose two fighters for Street Fighter or Tekken. The fighters can be switched out normally or even during combos. The characters will be controlled using the Street Fighter’s 6 button system, but it was revealed later on that Tekken characters can also use the 4 button system to perform combos. As you play the game, the player builds up power up to 3 levels which is represented by the “Cross Gauge” found on the bottom of the screen. By unleashing the power you can either perform Super Arts, EX Attacks, Cancels and various Cross techniques depending on the level of power you have stored. The mechanics of the game is similar to that of the Tekken Tag game. If one of the fighter’s health bar is depleted then the match is over.
Capcom has given heavy emphasis to the tag team aspect of the match. Switch cancel allows the fighter to cancel a combo by switching out. Cross launch combos involve launching the enemy into the air then switch to the other player to continue the combo. You also have the Cross Arts and Cross Assault which can be used once the “cross gauge” is full.
Street Fighter X Tekken introduces two new game mechanics which includes Gem System and Pandora Mode. The gem system allows the player to equip up to 3 gems which will provide stat boost. Pandora Mode is actually a last resort for desperate players. It can be activated once one the player’s life is less than 25%. It requires the player to sacrifice the team mate for an added strength and infinite Cross Gauge. If Pandora Mode runs out without defeating the other player, then the player who activated it automatically loses.
Street Fighter X Tekken is coming to PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and PC on March 6, 2012 in North America and March 9, 2012 in Europe.
