Street Fighter X Tekken — Get Ready To Rumble!

Street Fighter X Tekken Release Date

Crossover fighting games are really fun to play. Marvel vs Capcom is the prime example of such collaboration. If you are already tired of Marvel vs Capcom then the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken might once again fire up your excitement for crossovers. I’m very excited too, as I am a big fan of both Street Fighter and Tekken. I can’t wait to use Chun li to beat the crap out of Jack. Yeah, I can feel that you are excited too, and I’m assuming that you already have a character match-up in mind.

First of all, the game is created by Capcom, so the core gameplay of the game will be similar to Street Fighter. Expect that the game will feature familiar Street Fighter elements such as Super Combos and EX Attacks. Each player will choose two fighters for Street Fighter or Tekken. The fighters can be switched out normally or even during combos. The characters will be controlled using the Street Fighter’s 6 button system, but it was revealed later on that Tekken characters can also use the 4 button system to perform combos. As you play the game, the player builds up power up to 3 levels which is represented by the “Cross Gauge” found on the bottom of the screen. By unleashing the power you can either perform Super Arts, EX Attacks, Cancels and various Cross techniques depending on the level of power you have stored. The mechanics of the game is similar to that of the Tekken Tag game. If one of the fighter’s health bar is depleted then the match is over.

Capcom has given heavy emphasis to the tag team aspect of the match. Switch cancel allows the fighter to cancel a combo by switching out. Cross launch combos involve launching the enemy into the air then switch to the other player to continue the combo. You also have the Cross Arts and Cross Assault which can be used once the “cross gauge” is full.

Street Fighter X Tekken introduces two new game mechanics which includes Gem System and Pandora Mode. The gem system allows the player to equip up to 3 gems which will provide stat boost. Pandora Mode is actually a last resort for desperate players. It can be activated once one the player’s life is less than 25%. It requires the player to sacrifice the team mate for an added strength and infinite Cross Gauge. If Pandora Mode runs out without defeating the other player, then the player who activated it automatically loses.

Street Fighter X Tekken is coming to PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 and PC on March 6, 2012 in North America and March 9, 2012 in Europe.

Diablo III Sneak Peek

Diablo III Release Date

It was on June 2008 when Diablo III was announced at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France. Sadly, up until now, there has been no release date mentioned by Blizzard but on the bright side, we know that the game is nearing its release as the beta has been released last September 2011. I can’t wait for this game either, as it is one of my favorite dungeon crawling role playing games. Old players will have familiarities with the Diablo 3 as it borrows element form its predecessors. As for those who are not familiar with the series, it is a hack and slash dungeon crawling RPG with dark themes. Customization of characters as well as skills is also a major feature of this game.

As for the plot of the game, Diablo III takes place in Sanctuary. It is the world that you have to save from the evil armies of the Burning Hell. It is the same world as in Diablo II. This dark fantasy world is really unfortunate as the dark forces never get tired of ruining things and being the hero of this new generation, you have the responsibility to temporarily stop this evilness. I said temporarily because you know, Diablo IV might come out and take place in Sanctuary again.

As for the gameplay, expect it to be very similar with the previous game but with additions, refinements and improvements. The perspective is in top-down view which I actually prefer when it comes to RPG games. Of course there is a multiplayer through the Battle.net service. Other good additions are the enhanced quest system, the random level generator and the random encounter generator which ensures that the game will have variance when replayed.

And to spoil things a bit, let me introduce to you the different classes in Diablo III. It includes the new witch doctor, barbarian, wizard, monk and demon hunter.  Wait, did I mention that you can now choose the gender of your character?

Wizards of the Coast to Release Limited Edition Reprints of D&D Books

Premium Dungeons and Dragons Books

Without a doubt, role playing games of all genres owe a debt of gratitude to Dungeons and Dragons. The role playing hobby may not even exist today if it weren’t for Gary Gygax’s introduction of D&D way back in 1974. The game’s influence can be seen not only in every table top RPG game that’s come since, but in video RPG games as well, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the Spike Video Game Awards 2011 game of the year. Sadly, Gary Gygax passed away in 2008, but he undeniably left his mark on the gaming world at large with his most famous creation.

To honor the work and memory of Gary Gygax, Wizards of the Coast is releasing limited edition reprints of three classic Dungeons and Dragons books: the Dungeon Master’s Guide, the Player’s Handbook, and the Monster Manual. The books are being dubbed the “Premium” versions and are being released on April 17, 2012 in limited quantities. The premium versions are faithful, hardcover reproductions of the original books with the same content and artwork. Only the book covers have been redesigned to commemorate the new release. Wizards of the Coast is planning to donate a portion of the profits for each book sold to the Gygax Memorial Fund. The fund has been established to honor the creator of Dungeons and Dragons with a memorial statute in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin — Gary Gygax’s hometown and the birthplace of D&D.
